Fifth Consignment to Cambodia’s Largest Dairy
A shipment of 220 Australian Holstein dairy cattle exported by Australia’s Livestock Exporters has expanded Cambodia’s largest commercial dairy herd to approximately 1,400 head.
Australia’s Livestock Exporters (ALE) has delivered 220 Australian Holstein Friesian dairy cattle to Cambodia by air freight, expanding the country’s largest commercial dairy operation at Kirisu Farm in Takeo province to approximately 1,400 head.
It is the fifth consignment ALE has flown to the farm, and follows the original foundation herd of 550 Australian Holstein heifers ALE supplied in 2020, the shipment that established Cambodia’s first large-scale commercial dairy. ALE was the first Australian exporter to supply dairy cattle into Cambodia and has supplied every head of the farm’s herd since.
The Australian Embassy in Cambodia announced the arrival, noting the expansion is expected to reduce Cambodia’s reliance on imported dairy products and create local employment. The project is supported through the Cambodia Australia Partnership for Resilient Economic Development (CAPRED), Australia’s flagship economic development programme in Cambodia.
The cattle travelled in purpose-built livestock air freight crates aboard a dedicated cargo aircraft, keeping transit time short and welfare standards high from the Australian quarantine facility through to arrival.
“Delivering a shipment of this size requires months of planning before the aircraft leaves Australia,” said a spokesperson for Australia’s Livestock Exporters. “Sourcing, pregnancy testing, quarantine and veterinary certification all have to line up.”
“We’re proud to have supported Cambodia’s dairy industry from the very first shipment,” the ALE spokesperson said. “Seeing a herd we’ve supplied from the beginning now producing fresh milk for Cambodian consumers is the outcome every exporter hopes for.”
